Local Soldier Obtains Military Medal

Mrs E Stephens, Mount Pleasant, Sheffield road, has been informed that her husband Sgt John Stevens, R.A.M.C., has been awarded the military medal.

He received the news from his major, whilst lying in hospital in Alexandria, suffering from dysentery and enteric fever.

He has obtained the medal for conspicuous services on the D.A.D.M.S.embarkation staff, Alexandria.

His major says: “well done! Your have performed sterling work and more loyally carried out all my instructions. May you will long be spared to wear your well earned military medal.

Sgt Jack Stephens previous to join the forces, was employed as a clerk in the Denaby and Cadeby colliery offices, and his friends will be pleased to hear of his distinction.
