Mr. Derek Allport, 20-years-old son of Mr. and Mrs. I. Allport, of 43, The Crescent, Conanby Conisbrough, has gained a special pass in the National Diploma of Design in Art.

Derek attended Balby St. School, Denaby Main, and later went to Conisbrough Northcliffe Secondary Modern School, from where he gained entrance to Rotherham Art School. After three years at Rotherham he sat his intermediate examination in art and gained a place at Kingston-on-Thames School of Art.

At the moment Derek is working during the summer recess but hopes to resume his studies later. He is well known on Conisbrough for his work, and while at the Secondary School he did two murals. He began painting at the age of eight and often made his own comic strips and other pictures.
