Two Ties for Conisborough Schools Shield.

On Saturday evening, in the Baths at the Miners’ Welfare Institute, Denaby Main, the children from the five Conisborough schools competed for the first time for the silver shield which was put up by the Miners’ Welfare Institute and the Denaby Allotment Holders’ Association. Points were awarded for various events, and Balby Street School and Rossington Street School tied for the shield.

As a decider, one boy from each of these two schools and one girl swam off, and again tied, so a mixed ream race of two boys and two girls settled the shield, Balby Street winning.

Individual events, for which gold medals were awarded, were won the following;—

Boys.—Under 11, R. Shephard (Morley Place); 11 to 12, H. Hartley (Rossington Street); 12 to 14, E. Wright (Morley Place).

Girls.—Under 11, no competitors; 11 12, T. Kitching (Station Road); 12 to 14, E. Payling (Balby Street).

Team Race. —Gold medals for winning teams: Rossington Street; girls, Balby Street.

Ladies’ Race.—l, Miss. Bestwick; 2, Miss Greasby; 3, Miss Meakin.
