Taking Tobacco Pipe Down The Pit

Before Mr. G. Chambers and Mr, Jubb. A Reprehensible Practice. Samuel Peplow of Denaby, was summoned for having committed a breach of special rule 99 at the Denaby Main Colliery, taking a tobacco pipe down the pit on the 24th March.

Mr. A. P. Aizlewood prosecuted.

Albert Parkin, deputy, said on the day named he was in the pit bottom searching the men. In the defendant’s possession he found the clay pipe produced.

ln defence prisoner urged that he was not in the habit of smoking. The pipe was not his, although it belonged to his friends, and he thought his brother must have put the pipe into his pocket, as he was unaware,of its being in his possession.

Fined 5s. and costs.
