Mexborough and Swinton times, July 16.

The Claim for Wages by a Conisborough Farm Labourer.

Alfred Newborn, farm labourer, claimed £3 15s 0d for wages from John Fowler, farmer, Conisborough.

Mr Verity appeared for the defendant.

Complainant said he was engaged by the defendant from January until Martinmas. He was to receive four shillings a week and his victuals. He did not receive sufficient food.

He gave a month’s notice, and left on June 30. He had received 10 shillings and now claimed £3 15s 0d more for wages due.

From the evidence it appeared that complainant complained of having inferior food and an insufficient quantity of it, and through this he left, but this was denied by the defendant, who said complainant had the same food as the rest of the family.

The bench could not see the case made out, and ordered him to return to his work until Martinmas.
