The Denaby Main Assault Case.

A middle-aged woman named Bridget Mannion, living at Denaby, was charged with having unlawfully wounded John Humphreys, miner, also of Denaby on the 22nd inst.

Mr. Hickmott prosecuted.

He stated that the unlawfully wounding was due to the prisoner having struck Humphreys over the head, the result being injuries of such a severe nature that the man’s life was despaired of. His deposition had been taken by a magistrate. Although a good deal better the prosecutor was not yet out of danger, as was shown by a doctor’s certificate which he held in his hand. Under the circumstances it was necessary that a remand should be applied for.

Mr. Gichard, who defended, did not object to the course proposed. As soon as Humphreys was nut of danger he should apply for bail.

The prisoner had suffered from bronchitis, and had also had a stroke.

The Bench granted a remand for a week.
