The Denaby Main Strike

A large number of surface man, as well as a large number of underground workmen, employed at Denaby Main Colliery before the strike, are still out of employment.

The fact that a number of the underground employees are still unemployed arises, we are informed from the fact that a complete district of the underground workings, “the East Plane,” has been closed, and the cause of a number of the surface men being still out of work arises in part from the fact that the firm have set down additional machinery on the surface, and have let some of the surface work to contractors, as well as from the fact that with fewer employees being needed below, a corresponding number must be dispensed with above ground.

In conversation with a member of the late strike committee are represented was informed that he believed the matter would ultimately write itself, and that the bulk of the men not yet taken on would be ultimately returned to work.

During the week, both surface and underground workmen have held meetings of a private character.
