The Organiser

After nine years of organising holidays for Conisbrough pensioners, 78-year-old widow, Mrs Jane Tillotson is to retire. Every year, Mrs Tillotson has run a savings club, booked coaches and hotel rooms, and arranged day trips to enable pensioners to enjoy a holiday they may not otherwise have had. Now she feels that someone “a little younger” should take over. The holiday club started when Mrs Tillotson and a few friends decided to save for a holiday together. Mrs Tillotson said “it just seemed to snowball, and before we knew where we were, we had a busload.”

Aged 78

This year a party of 40 pensioners, mainly from Conisborough Old Age Pensioners Club, are going for a weeks holiday in Dunoon from May 14-20th at a cost of £12 10s per head. Mrs Tillotson added: “we have all had some wonderful holidays together, and I am glad I have been able to them, but at 78, it is about time to think of letting somebody else do the work.”
