Theft of a Piece of Wood

John Hirst, labourer, Conisborough, was summoned by the Cadeby Main Colliery Company for stealing a piece of wood, at Cadeby, on October 8.

PC Lumb proved the case.

Harry Sykes Witty, manager Cadeby Main Colliery, deposed that bills were posted in the colliery premises warning people against taking wood.

Defendant pleaded guilty. He said that he went with some ashes to the pit and saw the wood where he tipped the Ashes.

He thought it was useless, and therefore put it into his cart and carried to Kilner’s works when it was all day.

If there are been another load of Ashes emptied the wood would have been buried.
