Theft of Whisky at Conisborough

At Doncaster police court on Tuesday, Charles Tinker, Hawker and Carter, Conisborough, was charged and installed a bottle of whiskey, value 3/3 (16p) from the Fox Inn Conisborough on Saturday.

Halton Marshall, Barman at the Fox Inn, said that on the date mentioned prisoner enter the bottle department, and asked for a glass of whiskey. After serving, witness had occasion to go into the tap room, and returning saw prisoner reach over the counter and seize a bottle of whiskey.

Witness went to him and inquired what game he was playing. Prisoner replied “Here, I’ll pay for it, here is sixpence an account.”

The money was not accepted, and information given to the police. William Alfred Lugar, landlord of the Fox In, Conisborough, deposed that on Monday evening prisoner came to him and said he was very sorry anddid not know why he had done such a thing. He hoped there would be no prosecution.

Sgt Horton proves the prisoners arrest, when the latter stated he was very sorry and did not know what he was thinking about. When he got a few glasses of drink he lost his head.

Prisoner pleaded guilty and and enclose a penalty of 40/- was imposed.
