They Had to Leave Their Gifts Behind

Because they had to pay Customs duty on musical boxes brought from their holiday in France, two Conisbrough boys had to leave their gifts behind as they could not afford the extra expense.

However the party of children from Conisbrough Boy’s Modern School had a most interesting time during their week in Paris, which terminated yesterday. The party was accompanied by four members of staff- Messrs. Mallinder, Charlton. Chadwick and Wilson.

The boys, who stayed at the Lycee St. Louis, visited many famous landmarks in the French capital, including Napoleon’s Tomb, the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame.

One of the boys told our reporter yesterday that although he could not speak French, he got on all right. When he went into a shop to make a purchase, he spoke in English and pointed to what he wanted.

The party enjoyed fine weather in France and the channel crossings were uneventful.
