Third Festival Will Be Staged This Month
The Industrial Theme in Flowers at Conisboro’

Floral murals on the theme of local industry are to be included in this year’s Flower Festival at Conisbrough Parish church.

Appreciation of the 1966 events has stimulated even greater interest in the current Festival, to be staged on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th, and the Festival Committee are maintaining a certain degree of secrecy in their planning in order to offer still greater surprise and pleasure to visitors.

In petals

One appreciated feature of last year’s festival, the picture in borax- soaked flower petals of the church’s patron saint, Saint Peter, made by Mrs Ellen Chadwick, has since been framed in glass (to exclude the air) and will be included again with the newly carved oaken plaques of Saint Peters Keys, undertaken by former church warden Mr WH Appleyard.

The flower portrait of Saint Peter, which is 4 feet high was one of exhibition some six weeks ago I Doncaster Flower Club.

Overwhelming

“We are concentrating on health and colour schemes,” said the wife of the vicar Mrs C Braithwaite.

“The appreciation we have had from Conisbrough and the immediate neighbourhood for the other Festivals was overwhelming and we thought it was worth having another go for their sake. It has been their spontaneous enthusiasm which has prompted a third Festival.

“We feel rather proud that several churches who visited our first Festival were inspired to hold festivals of their own.

The working committee began to arrange their themes ready to start decorating on Wednesday (August 21) there were also taken in and catering, which will provide morning coffee, tea and supper is in the Church Hall during the first three days of the four-day event

Events to raise money for the expenses of the Festival have been taking place in the parish to the past few weeks. The Festival display will be home to visitors for 11 hours each day on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the event will close with Festival Evensong on the Sunday.
