Tickhill Square Loss

Among Mitchell’s audience was 22-years-old opening bat Arthur Ellis, one of the most promising players Conisbrough has known in recent years.

Ellis, son of Mr and Mrs Albert Ellis, Crookhill Road, also sought Mitchell’s advice after the lecture.

Arthur tells me that he is leaving Denaby and Cadeby’s Yorkshire Council side next season for Eccleshill, the Bradford League club. In this move he follows Johnny Wardle, Yorkshire bowler from West Melton, and his departure will be a severe blow to the Denaby club, but Arthur is hoping that Bradford League cricket will bring quicker recognition to his undoubted talents.

He topped the Denaby averages last season and crowned a high-scoring term with centuries against Swinton and Shiregreen.

He is a member of the National Coal Board’s clerical, staff at Denaby and Cadeby Collieries and joined Denaby’s side on his release from the R.A F.
