Denaby United Have a Team Capable of Winning Promotion to Division One

Denaby United, who have been denied re-entry into the Midland League, determined not to give up the fight for promotion. “We are not going to buy promotion – but we are going to get the players capable of winning it for those”, said the club chairman, Mr Eddie Langford on Friday.

Speaking at the club annual meeting, Mr Langford said: “You can’t expect to get star players for rock bottom money.”

Over the year, the club have pulled back some of their liabilities, due mainly to an increase in gate receipts.

They made a profit of £96, which has helped them reduce their total liabilities to £958. Much of the credit for this as been given to the club’s financial secretary, Mr David Allport, who stepped in when the former financial secretary resigned. He was thanked by the meeting.

Thanks are also given to Tommy Wyman, the club groundsman, who has done sterling work for many years.

Prospects for next year look very much better than last year.

Manager Harry Lee as been busy recruiting new players, others come up with quite a few new edition – although so far, only the name of Jimmy Wiggles, the former Ossett player, can be revealed.
