Unprecedented Crowds at Conisborough

The attendance visitors at this popular- South Yorkshire holiday resort ware unprecedented yesterday.

The village and crags and the neighbourhood were simply crowded by an enormous concourse of people. Special excursion run foam Doncaster, Barnsley, Sheffield, and elsewhere, and poured hundreds and thousands of holiday seekers into the place.

All the roads from the principal towns in the district were rendered almost impassible by the vehicular and passenger traffic. This year the fair has been removed from the vicinity of the Red Lion Hotel to nearer the river, and here the gathering was greatest.

Since last Good Friday the castle keep, from which a splendid view of the surrounding country can be obtained, has been made much more secure for visitors and a charge now made for admission, which, however, did not deter in any from inspecting the old ruins.

Boating was indulged in extensively on the River Don, and amusements everywhere abounded.

Good Friday at Conisborough in every respect has been the most successful ever known, and the fine weather has been no unimportant factor towards bringing this about.

The Primitive Methodists of Mexborough and district as usual held their annual outing the Castle grounds, and tea was partaken of, followed by a meeting.
