His Grace the Archbishop York has appointed the Rev. G. H. Stocks, vicar Conisborough to the vicarage of Pocklington.

The rev. gentleman, who was educated Lincoln Theological College, and obtained his B.A. degree at Durham, was ordained deacon in 1879 and priest in 1880. His first curacy was at Harworth from 1879 to 1882, and proceeded from there Sheffield Parish Church, under the late Archdeacon Blakeney. In 1884 he accepted a curacy at South Shields, which he held for two years. and in 1886 returned to the Parish Church at Sheffield for a short time before going to Hemsworth, to take the curacy there under the Rev. C. E. Thomas.

In 1886 Mr. Stocks came under the notice the late Archbishop Thomson, who appointed him to the living of St. Peter’s. Middlesbrough, and afterwards to the important vicarage of St Paul, with its large population. In 1892 the present Archbishop offered him the Vicarage Conisborough, in succession the Rev. J. O. Wood, and after five years’ work at Conisborough the Archbishop has offered him the living of Pocklington, which he has accepted.

Mr. Stocks is very popular at Conisborough ; he is an able preacher, and thoroughly musical. He is a member of the School Board and has taken a great interest in the Yorkshire Penny Bank, the Church Lads’ Brigade. Church Institute, and other organisations.

In accepting Pocklington, he has done so entirely on account of Mrs Stocks’ health, as Conisborough does not agree with her.
