Village Protests Against Plan to Cut School Staff

A petition against Don Valley Divisional Education Executive’s proposal to reduce the number of teachers at Old Denaby Church of England School from two to one because of the small number pupils, was submitted the Executive last night. T

The petition was signed by every parent in the village.

The Divisional Education Officer (Mr. H. Holmes) told the meeting that nine of the school’s pupils were under five, and September there would be only 12 children of the official school age on the roll. Despite this he felt that the matter might be reconsidered.

The school managers had he said, supported the petition.
