Wardle’s debut for Yorkshire
In Roses Duel

June Dscn2860 Wardle

John Wardle, 22-year-old Denaby left-arm slow bowler, has been included in the Yorkshire team to meet Lancashire at Old Trafford in a two-day games starting July 2.

The team is: AB Sellers, Leyland, Barber, Hutton, Mitchell, Bowes, Hamer, Coxon, Fiddling, Booth and Wardle.

Two left-arm bowlers of those are included in the side; for Booth also comes into this category. Both Booth and Wardle took part in the charity cricket match at Mexborough on June 18. Waddle, who is a former Wath grammar school boy had the distinction of taking over 100 wickets in the Yorkshire Council last season, and so far has repeated his form this season. On Saturday he took seven for 38 against Sheffield United at Denaby

it is hardly to be expected that he will have immediate success, especially against such dour opposition as Lancashire, but he is being given an early chance and this should help him to develop the natural talent which he undoubtedly possesses.

Wardle has been spoken of as a possible successor to Verity, but it is still too early to say whether these talents are of that order.

His Yorkshire Council friends, Denaby colleague in particular ,extend their best wishes to him for success in his first-class cricket baptism.
