Denaby United Midland League inside right, Mervyn E. Law, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Law, 35, Manvers Road, Mexborough was married at St. Margaret’s Church, Swinton, on Saturday to Miss Doreen Bates, second daughter of Mr and Mrs. R. Bates, 146, Wath , Road, Mexhorough. The Vicar of Swinton, the Reverend WH Quarrel officiated at a choral service.

Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of white satin with training and embroidered with beads. She had a wreath of orange blossom and a full length embroidered veil. Her bouquet was of deep pink roses so

Her bridesmaids, Miss Marlene Bates, Miss Yvonne Bates, Miss Hazel Bates and Ms Shirley Law, wearing floral taffeta with gardenia headdresses and carried anemones

Best man was Mr R.W. Law and the groomsman Mr M Taylor and Mr T Richardson.

A reception was held at Brunswick Methodist schoolroom. The honeymoon was spent at Yarmouth, the bride travelling in a Cherry costume with matching accessories.

The bride’s mother was in grey with black accessories and the rise of the mother had chosen a cherry red dress with navy accessories.

The bridegroom, who has figured with Denaby United over a number of seasons, has also been actively associated with the Tom Hill Youth club. He will be the Denaby United side for tomorrow’s Midland League fixture with Doncaster Rovers reserves at Tickhill Square.
