Mexborough and Swinton Times March 3rd 1927

Interpretation of prices:

Decimalisation took place in 1971. Before then the currency was as below

Prices shown are in £ sterling/ shillings /pence
or shillings/pence where no £ sign is shown

20 shillings = £1
12 pence = 1 shilling

1 shilling = 5 (new) pence in today’s currency

so 6 in the right column = 2.5 new pence
and 11 in the right column = 4.6 new pence

we had fun in those days !
