Wide-awake Conisboro’ Constable.

James Speddinq, a private in the 2nd Northumberland Fusiliers, was charged with deserted.

P.c. Rutter said at 4 o’clock on the previous day he met the prisoner in Doncaster Road, New Conisborough, and he was not properly dressed.

He went into the Territorial Club. Witness followed him and disbelieved certain statements that defendant made. He took him into custody and locked him up.

On the way to the police station he confessed he was a deserter.

An escort was present to take him back.
