Wilful Damage to a Haystack

James Cook and Richard Rogers, colliers, Denaby, were summoned for doing wilful damage to a haystack in a grass field.

Mr Hall appeared for the prosecution.

Police Constable Midgley said that on Sunday May 1, about 4:15 in the afternoon he saw the two defendants in the stack yard of a field in the occupation of the Denaby Main Colliery Company.

They were pulling hay from under the stack and evidentially were trying to get some rabbits that were under.

William Terry for the Denaby Main colliery company proved that the stack had been damaged.

In defence, the men said they simply walked through the field.

The Bench fined defendants 2s 6d each, and ordered them to pay 6d each damage and 14s 6d costs.
