Wisbech at Denaby

Denaby United’s Midlands League programme over the holiday offered a bare Christmas cupboard so far as points were concerned and they finished the first half of the season with 15 points from 22 mid league matches and a goal average of 31-56.

In the English cup they won three ties and lost one with a goal tally of 14 to 6 and they are still in the Sheffield Senior Cup having beaten Langold 6-0.

Duggan was the leading goal scorer in spite of absence through injury with nine league goals, three F.A. cup goals and one senior cup goal. Holmes scored eight league and one F.A. cup goal.

They begin the New Year with a return match at Denaby on Saturday with Wisbech town. Kick off 2:15 Barnes returns to centre half with the signing of Fallon by Derby county. And Southall is at right wing. Dixon leads the attack with Duggan inside forward.

The team will be Williamson; Brown, J Gray; Southall, Barnes, Gillot; Austin, Duggan, Dixon, Holmes, Womack.

The reserves who had a particularly successful holiday in which they beat the Dragon united 8-0 in the Montague cup on Christmas eve and Harworth home and away 4-0 and 1-0 in the Sheffield Association league have no fixture on Sunday
