Conisbrough 168        Briggs Athletic 48

Conisbrough first XI entertained Briggs Ath. In their first home game of the season and won by 120 runs.

Briggs won the toss and sent Conisbrough into bat. Wilf Hepworth and Doug Straw opened the innings and both batsmen were in good form, runs coming freely until at 24 Hepworth was caught out at square leg 10. 16-year-old David Harrison playing his second game in the first XI joined Saxon, and it was the latter who went for the runs until after scoring 24 he was out LBW.

Jack Cheetham came in and it was good to see him in good form on the first ball. He scored runs all around the wicket, while at the other end Harrison was batting well. Cheetham was out at 102, for 47 runs. John Blackburn came in and left six minutes later after hitting 23 runs. Des Harvey, another 16-year-old, joined Harrison, and he hit a very good 14. Harrison was out after batting an hour for 13, but it was a good innings. Conisbrough’s later batsmen when out for quick runs and were finally all out for 168.
