Could Not Resist the Temptation
Denaby Boys Illicit Ride

Walter Ward, pit lad, Conisborough, John Jones, H Winterson and W Cliff, pit lads, Denaby were summoned for breach of colliery rule 90 in the Denaby mine.

Ward and Jones did not appear.

From the evidence of William Ryan, assistant deputy, who said that about 1.30 on the 18th, he saw one of the boys riding a pony attached to 10 tubs, and the other three boys were riding on the last tub.

He spoke to the defendant, and one of them made the remark that they “could not resist the temptation.”

Winterson and Cliff were fined 1/-and costs, and the absent defendants 2/6 and costs.
