Industrial Disease Caused Old Denaby Man’s Death

The Doncaster district coroner (Mr WH Carlisle) recorded a verdict of “Death from Industrial Disease” at Monday’s Conisbrough inquest on Walter Frederick Wilburn (66) an ex-miner who died at his home, 38 Denaby Lane, old Denaby on November 21 from pneumoconiosis.

It was stated by the dead man’s daughter, Mrs Mary Louise Haynes, who lived at the same address, that Mr Wilburn had worked as a stone contractor in the mines for most of his life. He last worked at Barnborough colliery three years ago; before that he had been working at Cadeby colliery.

He was first examined, said Mrs Haynes in May 1949 and in September 1952 was given a 100% disability pension.

Doncaster Infirmary Consultant Pathologist, Dr Henry Lederer said that death was due to the industrial disease of pneumoconiosis.
