Grand Victory by Denaby.
Barnsley Reserve 1 Denaby United 2
The Denaby players accomplished a very smart performance on Saturday, when they lowered the flag of the leaders in the Sheffield Association League. Attercliffe being otherwise engaged, Denaby appeared at Oakwell on Saturday.
The ground was frost bound, and one or two spots were covered with ice, rendering play rather difficult. The visitors were were the most dangerous at the opening, while the all men were badly disorganised.
McNeil gave Denaby the lead, and after having the better of the argument, Shaw added a second from a freekick close in, but the referee’s decision created much dissatisfaction, the whistle been blown for something quite two seconds before the ball was in the net. There was nothing further scored before the interval.
Barnsley showed a much better in the second half, though they were not in their usual stride. After repeated openings are gone by, a Hirst made a fine centre, and Gordon though only with difficulty keeping his foothold scored.
The close of the play took place in almost darkness, but Barnsley could not get even.
