A former Conisbrough man, Mr. Paul Carmody, (44), has been appointed Labour Party regional organiser for the South West region.
Mr. Carmody, married, was born at Burcroft, Conisbrough, and attended St. Alban’s School. After leaving school he worked at Cadeby Colliery but left at the beginning of the war to join the forces. He gained a commissioned rank and served in Europe and the Far East.
From 1946 until 1950 Mr. Carmody worked on the resettlement of stateless people of Europe in hostels throughout the country, but in 1950 settled in Newark. He was elected to Newark Borough Council in 1952 and from 1957 to 1961 was leader of the Labour Group. He also took over as first full-time agent for the Labour Party in the constituency.
He went to Bristol in 1961 as assistant regional organiser and four years later became regional organiser. From Bristol Mr. Carmody will cover Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. His mother, Mrs. Teresa Carmody, lives in Harthill Road, Conisbrough
