Too Many Halts.
Rain Spoils Denaby Game

Denaby 146 for 9 – Upton 121 for 6

Rain interrupted the game at Tickhill Square when Upton opposed a weakened Denaby team. Greenwood was away on holiday and Wright was indisposed. The players had to leave the field three times during the afternoon and actually there were only 116 minutes play.

Mountney opened out with Wainwright and they put on 36. Two more wickets fell for a further eight runs, but runs came steadily. It was left to Patterson and Pitt played to make the best stand which produced 49 runs. Another 33 were added by Pitt-Pladdy and Rowland, the former carrying his bat out for 36, and the Denaby captain declared at 145 for nine wickets.

Smith and Shaw, Upton’s opening pair, made up their minds to go for the runs but after they had both left at 67 the others began to sit on the splice. Humphrey and Ellis made a stand of 31 to bring the total to 121 when stirrups were drawn with six wickets down.

Denaby had 115 minutes batting and Upton 101 minutes. For Upton Hague took six for 66 and Humphreys three for 58. For Denaby Mountney had 3 for 36 Wainwright one for 30 and Probert two for 15.
