Although further steps have been taken towards giving Conisbrough a new County branch library, there is some doubt whether the proposed new building in Church Street will be started in the next two years. Conisbrough Council’s Library Committee has heard that the application for planning consent, for the library has been made.
But it appears that no financial provision has been made for erection of the building for the period up to 1968. Meanwhile book issues at both Conisbrough and Denaby local libraries continue to rise, despite a decrease in issues made to children.
In his half-yearly report for the April – September period last year, the Regional Librarian comments, ‘The issues at both branches show an increase and it seems that increased use of the Library by adults readers is compensating for less use by children’.
