“Stand Down” Dinner
Home Guard Event at Conisbrough
“The Home Guard is a strategic answer to invasions, and I feel very sorry that we have to be stood down”, said Maj P Brocklesby at last Thursday’s “Stand Down” dinner of the 43rd W.R. Home Guard Battalion, held in the Red Lion hotel, Conisbrough.
“It is not a complete stand down however,” said the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel R.G.C. Fennell, “as three of us will be kept on to form the nucleus of the reserve. It is possible that we have been stood down to be revived in some other form”, he added.
“There has been a grand spirit in the 43rd and we have performed a very valuable part, as have other H.G. battalions in the defence of the country” Col Fennell said.
The 43rd Home Guard (Reserve) will meet once a year, it is hoped at the annual small bore rifle competitions.
