Scene at Conisborough Inn
Walter S Calvert, and Askern miner, was charged at Doncaster on Tuesday with an assault on William Lumb, licensee of the Alma Inn, Conisborough, and with being drunk and disorderly with offences occurring on Saturday.
Mr Long said he was ejecting Calvert’s companion for making a disturbance when Calvert came up from behind him and struck him on the head with an empty pint pot, causing a severe cut. He was very violent and witness call the police.
PS Huck gave evidence of arresting Calvert, who pleaded guilty and had nothing to say.
Superintendent minty said it was one of those instances of men getting away from home and taking liberties.
Calvert was fine 15 shillings for disorderly conduct and £3 for the assault.
