Victory for Brodsworth

Despite a fine innings of 55 not out by skipper, Norman Oakley and good bowling by Dick Lawley (4 for 68), Denaby were unable to contain the strong Brodsworth side and were defeated by five wickets.

Denaby batted first and 154 for 8 in their innings, their principal scorers being Norman Oakley,  Curtis, ex Wednesday full-back with 29, McDonald (17), and Ellis (14). For Brodsworth, A Watt took five for 73 and M Dunn 2-34.

In their reply, Brodsworth got off to a good start with the first wicket partnership of 50 between D Parker (34) and County Colt , J Lumb (24). After this it became a question whether the Denaby bowlers could prevent the Brodsworth batsmen getting the runs before time was called. Some lusty hitting however from M Dunn (30) and B Whalley (30 not out) saw them through to victory with four overs and five wickets to spare.
