Denaby Officially Welcomes German Youth Footballers.
The 17 members of the German Youth football team at present visiting Denaby from Siegan, Westphalia, were given a warm welcome at the Denaby Tom Hill youth Centre last night on the occasion of their official reception to England.
It had previously been decided to postpone the reception, which should have been held on Wednesday when the boys arrived, to give them time to rest after their long journey.
The boys, who are chosen for the visit on their football merits are the guests of the Tom Hill youth centre in till August 28th. This is the sixth year that an exchange system between Denaby Tom Hill centre and Germany has been arranged.
At the reception were the families of the members of the club who are accommodating the boys during their stay, the representatives of the Denaby and Cadeby Miners Welfare Scheme, and local industries.
Mr R. Miller, chairman of the Tom Hill youth club, and also chairman of the Miners Welfare Scheme, said that the greatest difference boys would notice would be playing football on grass instead of Cinders. “Our team found the same difficulty when they visited Siegan,” he said.
Other speakers were Mr A. Roberts, who spoke on sporting Denaby, and Mr R. Aldrich, the area youth officer.
Herr Willi Kamper, one of the senior members of the football team, replied in English, thanking the people of Denaby for their kind reception. He said that while the boys were in England, they would not only be “brushing up” their English language, but also the English style of football.
