Accidents
A very serious and alarming accident took place at the old Pit on Monday morning week, which at first was exaggerated to a large extent, the rumours being spread that the three men implicated were all killed.
It seems that while the three men – W. Kershaw, T. Hadfield, and another were engaged widening a roadway in the east plane of Denaby Pit, when from some unforeseen cause the supports which held the roof up gave way, burying the men among the debris.
They were got out with all speed, and two of them conveyed to the hospital, where it was found that they were not injured as bad as was expected, considering the way they were buried under the fall of roof and timber.
