Wounding Unlawfully at Conisborough.

William Edward Butler, Collier, Conisborough, was charged with unlawfully wounding a man named George Fisher, a collier of the same place.

The complainant and defendant and another man were at the Denaby Main Arms, when prisoner and the other man began teasing complainant’s dog, and they had words about it.

Complainant left the house, and defendant and the other man followed, and defendant said he meant to fight him. He seized him by the handkerchief, but complainant got away, leaving his handkerchief and hat behind.

Defendant ran after him and two witnesses saw him raise what is called a lamb’s foot knife and stabbed complainant but complainant did not see the man stab him. But he felt something go into him. Complainant got up and run away. And on getting home his clothes were taken off, and it was found that they had been cut into places, and that he was bleeding profoundly.

Dr Gilchrist was called in and attended to the man who is still suffering from the effects of the clash.

In defence. It was alleged that defendant receive provocation and that complainant struck the first blow.

Defendant was committed for trial, bail being allowed, if he can find sureties.
