An Advance in Cabinet Makers’ Wages celebrated by Cricket Match.
The other day the operative cabinetmakers of Sheffield, and those in the employee of Messrs. Appleyard & Sons, Rotherham and Conisbrough, obtained an advance of wage of 2s. per week, and in celebration of the first payment a cricket match was played at Conisbrough in the afternoon of the day, between 11 of Messrs. Appleyard’s workmen and 11 of Messrs. Johnstons of Sheffield.
After a spirited contest, the game terminated with the defeat of the latter
