Elsecar beat Denaby

Elsecar 110 for 7                  Denaby & Cadeby 106

Smith 6-27                                           A Ellis 52

Although not quite so convincing as usual, Elsecar were well worth their Yorkshire Council victory over Denaby and Cadeby at Elsecar on Saturday. They won by three wickets, Denaby and Cadeby scoring 106, and Elsecar 110 for seven. In a slow but invaluable innings of 52, Denaby and Cadeby opener, A. Ellis, scored seven boundaries but could not find a partner to stay with him. The next highest scorer was Smith, with 12. The Elsecar attack, although not helped particularly by the dry wicket, maintained a highly accurate length, and as a tribute to fieldwork only 1 Extra Found Its Way into the scorer’s book. Bridge had two for 34 and Clayton and Taylor each took three wickets. Schofield claimed Ellis is important wicket from a catch by Smith.

Elsecars run making was led by Brian Brooke, who scored 27 runs before being bowled by Smith. Smith, Denaby and Cadeby, took all six Elsecar wickets that fell for 27 runs. But even this fine spell of concentrated bowling wasn’t enough to hold the Elsecar batting machine
