Denaby Defeat Mexborough Again.

The return match between Denaby United and Mexborough Town drew gate representing £46 odd to the Denaby ground yesterday.
The game ended in well-deserved victory for Denaby by 3 goals to 2, the Villagers thus having the satisfaction of taking all four Midland League points from their great local rivals this season.
There could be no question that Denaby displayed the finer football, their forwards and half- backs showing far better method than did Mexborough, who were determined enough, but lacking in sympathetic understanding

At Denaby before 4,000 spectators. The game had a sensational start, Rodgers scoring for Mexborough straight from the kick-off. Denaby then attacked hotly. Kelley twice putting shots over the bar later. Tayles saved finely from Ball, who wound up good run with a fast shot. Mexborough ran down, but Lowe was ruled off-side. Both sides put in periods of strong aggressive work. 20 minutes from the start Ball equalised for Denaby with wonderful shot. Play now continued at a rare pace, both sides putting in every ounce. Denaby failed top utilise a free,’ kick close in, and later forced a futile corner. Mexborough replied, and Lowe topped the cross-bar with a fast shot. Nearing the interval, Kelley gave Denaby the lead, following on free kick nicely placed by Nimrod.

Mexborough started the second half in lively fashion, but were beaten back, and Bennett, with a clever header, found Tayles clearing with difficulty. Lowe broke away and forced a fruitless corner.
Later, Crowcroft missed an east chance of equalising. Blackburn put on Denaby’s third goal. Mexborough tried hard but Denaby now held the whip hand, being more dangerous in front of goal. but Ball once missed an easv chance. Mexborough scored from a penalty on time.
