Too Much For Tobacco.

On Tuesday, at Doncaster, two young Conisboro’ shop assistants, Minnie Goddard and Elizabeth Waters, were summoned for selling tobacco above the maximum price.

Samuel Walker, a labourer, of Balby street, sent his son to Mrs. Botterill’s shop for some tobacco, giving him a shilling, and he brought back 3d. change instead of 6d.

He then went for on ounce of the same tobacco, and he was charged the same price. He asked her who had told her to charge 6d and she replied Mrs. Botterill.

He told them they had charged too much and he should report it.

The Chairman said in view of proceedings to be taken against the shopkeepers they would only have to pay a nominal fine of ls. each.
