Sheffield Independent – Friday 18 March 1938

Grantham Town 7, Denaby United 2

Denaby United, who are at the bottom of the table, made a sensational start against Grantham, the Midland League leaders at Grantham yesterday, scoring twice through South and Williams, before Grantham opened their account.

Denaby however, soon found Grantham at their best, and were down 3—2 at the interval and eventually lost 7—2.

Three of the goals were scored when Denaby had only 10 men. Smith, the Denaby goalkeeper was injured and though he returned, collapsed through the effects of concussion and was carried off on a stretcher.

Denaby never gave up trying, and in the second half Japson, the home goalkeeper was frequently in action.

The goals for Grantham—a good all-round side—were scored by Stocks (3). Macartney (2). C. Dickinson, and Green (own goal).
