Denaby Let Point Slip

Denaby United 2  Hallam 2

First time out at Tickhill Square on Saturday, for the Yorkshire league game with Hallam, Denaby United’s brand-new free strike attack.

United have played it only once before, away from home, and it seemed fair enough to try out on struggling Hallam. At first it looked as though big things can be expected of it, with Roger Wood most effective of the triumvirate. Cooper and McIntyre were no duffers either, and the crowds look forward to goals.

Right-back Hanwell was playing a sound defensive games for the Sheffielders, who had their scoring chances, but met with a sound Denaby back rank. A first goal came for Denaby when McIntyre put WOOD onto beauty, which he lashed into the net. Wood continued to blast away, and put one other shot, that ought to have burst the netting, over-the-top.

One Flash

In their one flash of first-halt brilliance, Hallam got a goal through DODD, who, if not helped, was not exactly hindered by Ainscough. The home side opened the second half with a salvo of shots, one of which, from WHITTAKER made it. Play tended to be a bit scrappy after that, with Hallam more in the game, and in 75 minutes ELLIS equalised with a header from a free-kick.

It was Denaby’s fault that they did not win — they could have done.
