Hard Labour for Highway Robbers
Sentences of twelve months’ imprisonment with hard labour have been passed at Leeds Assises upon Martin Myers, 28, collier Emmanuel Gibbs, 24, collier, and Isaac Gough, 28, miner, who were found guilty of highway robbery.
On the road from Conisborough to Rotherham the prisoners set upon Edward Strannock, the prosecutor, carried him into a plantation by the road, placed a handkerchief over his mouth, gagged him, and rifled his pockets
Considerably violence was used.
The prisoners had been previously drinking with the prosecutor.
