Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Friday 25 April 1919
Miners’ Happiest Time.
‘’lt’s the happiest time my life” was a remark credited to miner named William Palmer, of Denaby, when separating from his wife.
Palmer was at the Rotherham Borough Court, yesterday, summoned for desertion.
The allegation was that through defendant’s violence and threats his wife was compelled to leave him on the 25th January. On that date they were living in Westgate, Rotherham. Defendant stated that it was mutually arranged they should separate. He also complained of tire interference of his mother-in-law. When he had told her to go it was only in fit of temper.
The Bench made order for the payment of 25s. per week.
Mr. Fenoughty appeared for the complainant.
