Collier’s Offence In The Pit.
At the Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Saturday, Edward Edwards, collier, Denaby, was summoned for breach of colliery rules at Colliery on the 8th inst.
Defendant’s offence was not drawing the back timbers before he drew the timbers on roads in front.
Mr. Gichard, who appeared for the prosecution, said the defendant was warned several times before he was told he would be reported. The practice, said Mr. Gjchard, was a very dangerous one, and the colliery company were opinion that if it was not stopped they would have ask the Bench to send offenders to prison without the option of fine. They did not ask that in this case.
Defendant was fined 10s and 18s. 6d. costs.
Thomas Turner, collier, Denaby, was fined 10s. and costs for taking a pipe down the Denaby mine.
Walter Wilson, pony driver. Denaby, for riding on a corf in Cadeby pit without permission was fined 2s. and costs; and John Scott, pony driver, Mexborough, was fined 2s. and costs for knocking down a prop in pit and letting down some dirt.
