Auditors Suggestion to Hospital Board.
On Payment of Accounts.
Conisborough Extension Scheme Progress.
A suggestion that great care should be exercised in the examination of accounts prior to payment has been made to the Doncaster and Mexborough joint Hospital Board by Mr Tuke, the district Auditor.
At a meeting of the board at the Isolation Hospital, Conisborough, on Wednesday, the Klerk (Mr R Bowers) read the auditors report for the year ended 31st of March 1938, which included the statement:
“Greater care appears to be necessary in the examination of accounts prior to payment. Six creditors were overpaid to the extent of £42 5s 3d and two accounts were pit twice, amounting to a total of £16 9s. The latter amount was recovered before audit and the remaining £25 was recovered during audit.
The Board decided to accept the report and to adopt in future a different system of checking the accounts for goods ordered and received.
Extension Scheme.
The question of the future accommodation of the hospital was again before the board when correspondence was read from the West Riding County Council and Ministry of Health of the matter. The Board have a scheme, costing £65,413 for extending the hospital to 120 beds, but a short time ago. The County authority, while revising isolation hospital accommodation throughout the County area, suggested an increased to 156 beds.
Mr Bowers reported the receipt of a letter from the County Council that they would be prepared to allow the Board to go on with its own scheme as an instalment on the understanding that the additional accommodation could be added at some later date. With this in view structural amendments to the Board scheme were suggested.
A Step Further.
Mrs M.E.Ring rose (Bentley) said that they were delighted to know at least that they had got a step further. She asked what the next step would be.
The Clerk: to negotiate for a loan and give the contractors notice to start work.
Medical Report.
The report of the Medical Superintendent (Dr W.J.McClure) showed that on April 1. There were 73 patients under treatment in the isolation hospital, 20, suffering from scarlet fever, 48, from diphtheria and one from cryalpelas.
35 patients were admitted during the month, 12 scarlet fever, 20 with diphtheria and three with encephalitis .
At the end of there remained inhospital 21 scallop fever patients, 26, diphtheria and three encephalitis patients.
Admissions were from Mexborough, Woodlands, Bentley, Edlington, Campsall, Kirk Sandall, Denaby, Askern, Bentley, Carcroft, Stainforth, Skellow
