Big Blow for Denaby
Denaby United 1 Houghton Main Colliery 2
It was a severe shock to Denaby United to beaten 2-1 on their, own ground by Houghton Main Colliery. The surprise occasioned by the result was, not confined to the supporters of Denaby either.
Denaby were the superior side, but Houghton played a harder and more vigorous game. The visitors opened the scoring after about half-an-hour’s play, Marsh putting through a scramble in the goal-mouth.
Maden equalised a few minutes before the interval, and Moore scored what proved to be the winning goal soon alter the resumption.
Hodgkins who was tried at the outside-right position, was the best of the home forwards.
