Conisborough Labourers and their “Drops.”
William Hanks, miner, Conisborough, was charged with being drunk and disorderly.
P.s. Carr proved the case, and added that the defendant had his coat off and was wanting to fight—Fined 10s. and 11s. 6d. costs, or 14 days.
Charles Gaudy, labourer, Conisborough, was summoned for a similar offence.
P.c. Drury proved the case.
defendant; Where was it?—ln Wellgate.—Not in the Fox ?—No.
As God’s my judge it was at the Fox, My lad had been summoned and a waiter asked ” How’s them lads gone on ? ” and I said the bobbies had sworn false. (Laughter.)
P.s. Carr corroborated the constable, and said he saw him with a jug.
Defendant : You most have been drunk yourself—that jug was a can. (Laughter.) You went straight through to get a glass, I expect. (Laughter.)
Hannah Hilton spoke on behalf of the defendant. The defendant was ” fresh.”— Fined 5s and 12s. costs, or seven days.
