New Signings at Denaby United
Denaby United have this week signed on five new players, including a centre forward for whom they have been negotiating for some time. Probably the most important capture of the week is John Creasey, a centre halfback from Kiveton Park, aged 26, six feet two in height, and weighing 14 stone, a tremendous fellow, who not only has the right dimensions, but has a good playing record, including a good deal of Army football in Salonika, Palestine and France.
He is considered one of the best half backs in the district and Denaby are congratulating themselves on having secured him, for several well-known clubs, including Bristol City and Blackpool have been after him. Last season he made several appearances for Notts County. Denaby have also signed on Edward Lund, from Rotherham Town, a goalkeeper of considerable Midland League experience, who will play against his recent clubmates today at Denaby.
Two new forwards, Lacey and Grey, from Cleethorpes, have been secured. Each man has a good record with Cleethorpes, Grimsby and Gainsborough, and both have been prevented by business engagements from joining a higher class of football.
The new centre forward Richard Machin, is from Parkgate Christ Church, and has a remarkable goalscoring record, having netted 40 times that club in Sheffield Minor League and Junior cup ties. He has been introduced by Chantry, the Denaby captain, also a Parkgate man, who has had Machin in his eye for a long time. He is 25 years of age, 5 feet nine, and 11 stone nine. It remains to be seen whether he will find Midland League defences as easy to overcome as those which he had been lately riddling, but that he is a most likely lad there can be little doubt.
