Denaby United Down Again.
Denaby United 1 Wednesday Reserves 2
The Wednesday Reserves proved too good for Denaby United on the latter’s ground yesterday, and won by the odd goal in three a keenly contested game.
Hamilton opened the score for the home side after Bellamy, his inside man, had had a goal negatived for offside. Eggo equalised before the interval, and after the exchange of ends Reilly gave the Wednesday the lead with a splendid goal.
Denaby, playing with the wind and the slope in the second half put forward a strong effort to equalise, but the Wednesday defence was sound. Richardson, the Denaby centre-forward wasted some excellent chances by kicking high, and none of the other forwards accomplished much in the shooting line.
Wednesday were much the cleverer team.
Doncaster’s Third Goalless Draw
Doncaster Rovers 0 Mexborough Town 0
What ought to have been the “tit bit” of the holidays at Doncaster—the meeting with Mexborough—proved a disappointment, and most indifferent football was witnessed, chiefly because of the high wind which prevailed, and the Rovers made their third draw without a goal being scored in either match.
The home team was handicapped by the absence of Mahon, the captain, and Bromage, their clever left winger; through injuries, the latter having sprained his ankle at Barnsley on Saturday.
The Rovers failed to take advantage of the wind in the first half, no judgment being shown in shooting, and their defeat in the second half was averted by the fine defence put up, especially by Wigglesworth, who was always in the thick of the fray.
On the general play Mexborough showed the better form.
